Cantor Sam Josephson—a Life of Service
“I have been blessed with the talent
and ability to reach out effectively as well as involve, inspire
and sing with neshama, and to open new horizons in Judaism.
I bring together a unique blend of Congregational Singing,
and Hazzanut that energizes services and engages the Congregation.
I am there for the Congregation covering all life cycle and
community related events, working together with the Rabbi.”
For the second time in as many years, the Cantors Assembly
has honored Cantor Sam Josephson. The year before last he
was asked to sing ES BRENT at the Convention’s Holocaust Commemoration.
This past year he was invited to sing the HAZKORAT HANESHAMOT
(the Ei_l Maalei Rakhamim) for the 6 Million Kedoshim. This
marks the first time that a Second Generationer has been given
this singular honor. It speaks not only of his vocal ability
but the kind of mentsch that he is as well.
Here is a team player—a Jewish Communal Leader for more than
a decade serving as Cantor, Director of Jewish Family Life
Education, Coordinator of Fundraising & Special Events,
Jewish Resource & Programming Specialist, Religious School
Director, Music & Drama Specialist, Youth Director, and
Assistant Hillel Director for Synagogues, UJA Federation and
Zionist Youth Movement Summer Camps, Birthright Israel, College
Campus Hillels, UJA Fund Drives, Israel Bonds, JCCs, and YM/YWHAs.
Cantor Josephson met his wife Blair while
pursuing his studies at Oberlin College. Their family trips
to Israel to celebrate the Bnai Mitzvah of their three sons,
even during the height of the Intifada, when everyone else
on their proposed tours cancelled—speaks loudly of their commitment
to Israel, to the Jewish people, and to Jewish day school
education.
Cantor Josephson regards as his highest calling, working with
the Rabbi and lay leadership to eradicate illiteracy, apathy,
and division--through empowerment, participation, and joy!
