Cantor Gary Zener, a native of Toronto, Canada,
graduated from the Cantors Institute of The Jewish Theological
Seminary of America in 1983 with a B.S.M. degree and a diploma
of Hazzan. He also holds a B.A. in Sociology from York University
in Toronto (1979). While in Toronto, Cantor Zener studied
voice and music during his many years with Adath Israel Congregation.
He also sang in the Adath Israel Professional Choir for seven
years where his dear friend, colleague, and mentor, Cantor
A Eliezer Kirshblum inspired and encouraged him to choose
the Cantorate for his life's work. Cantor Zener served as
Secretary of the St. Louis Circle of Jewish Music and was
on the Board of Directors for the Solomon Schechter Day School.
Cantor Zener has appeared on CBC television across Canada
and has performed many times in concert. In addition, Cantor
Zener loves to teach adults (Adult Education), youth (B'nai
Mitzvah, Youth Choirs), and teens (Confirmation). He also
holds a Pastoral Care Training Certificate which has helped
him greatly in his hospital and nursing home visitations.
He has held positions in Toledo, Ohio, Rochester, New York,
Calgary, Canada, and Florida. While in Toledo, he was an active
member of the Cantors Council of Detroit. Cantor Zener most
recently served as Cantor of Temple Beth Tikvah in Greenacres,
Florida until August 2004.
