Lawrence Eliezer Kepecs possesses a rich tenor voice
and a repertoire that includes Cantorial, Israeli, Yiddish, and
Neapolitan Folk Songs, as well as Italian, French, and German Opera.
Lawrence Kepecs is currently the Vice President of the not-for-profit
international Cantorial organization, The Jewish Ministers Cantors
Association of America, founded in 1897. He has organized and performed
at numerous events, is an eager learner, self motivated, and a responsible
individual, with extensive talents and background that provide him
with the necessary skills to be successful in any type of position.
He has been a professional Cantor, Concert Artist, and Fine Artist
for over 20 years, and recently invented various technological devices
which he has patented.
OBJECTIVES:
To pursue a diversified full-time Cantorial position, and to concertize
worldwide.
EDUCATION:
1988-1993: Yeshiva University:
-Yeshiva College, Yeshiva University, NY. Bachelor of Arts in Psychology.
- Isaac Breuer College of Hebraic Studies, Yeshiva University, NY.
Bachelor of Science in Jewish History; Hebrew Teachers Diploma.
1988: graduated Westchester Hebrew High School and
awarded the DERECH ERETZ KADMAH L’TORAH AWARD.
Cantorial Training:
1988-1992: Philip and Sarah Belz School of Jewish Music, Yeshiva
University under the direction of Cantor Bernard Beer, Director
of the Philip and Sarah Belz School of Jewish Music.
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:
1996 - Present: Cantor "Rishon" at Kehillat Hillel-Southside
Jewish Center, North Woodmere, NY.
Duties included in addition to Synagogue services:
- Teaching in Hebrew School.
- Cantor at life cycle events such as: weddings, Bar-Bat Mitzvahs,
funerals, brisses, dinners, and other Synagogue functions when needed.
- Instructing students for Bar Mitzvah cantillations.
- Adult education and youth programs. Creator of a Torah Reader's
Club and Youth Shabbos.
- Pastoral duties including visiting the sick.
- "Resident Sofer" repaired many Sif rei Torah.
2004- Present: Professor of Liturgical Music at
The American Seminary for Contemporary Judaism, Baldwin, NY.
2008 Tenor and soloist in the Shir Daberi Choral
Ensemble, under the direction of Cantor Oscar Berry and Cantor Neil
Giniger.
1995- Officiated with choir, High Holidays at Congregation
Beth Tfiloh, Baltimore, MD. Lead choir in association with the choir
director.
1992-1995: Cantor at the Kingsway Jewish Center,
Brooklyn NY.
In addition to the duties mentioned above, director of the choir
in the Synagogue and worked with Yeshiva Mizrachi L'Banim Choir
and Evocans Russian Choral Ensemble.
1991-1993: Tenor in Yeshiva University Choral Ensemble,
under direction of Cantor Neil Giniger.
1991- Officiated High Holidays at Beth El Jacob
Synagogue, Des Moines Iowa, while still attending Yeshiva College.
1988-1992: Cantor of the Orthodox Community of Colonial
Heights Yonkers, NY while still attending Yeshiva College.
Appeared internationally in concert on behalf of
numerous Jewish organizations.
In 2006, appeared in concert at Merkin Hall, NYC,
on behalf of Gush Katif in Israel
In 2006, appeared in Israel in two concerts, sponsored
by the Jerusalem Municipality and the Ministry of Tourism.
In 2005, sang in concert at The Great Synagogue
of Rome.
In 2005, was invited to sing with the JMCA before
Pope John Paul II at the Apostolic Palace, Rome, Italy.
In 1999, was invited to perform with the Shaar H
ashomayim Choral Society in Montreal, Canada.
In 1993, sang on behalf of the Mizrachi Organization
of Toronto with Chazzan Moshe Stern, and again in 1998. (Accompanied
by Cantor Daniel Gildar).
Sang at Lincoln Center as well as at Mt. Sinai Medical
Center NYC.
