David Edwards was born and raised in the UK
where he spent his formative years. For the past eight years
he has been the Hazzan at the Lodzer Centre Congregation in
Toronto, Ontario, Canada where he leads services on Shabbat,
Hagim and the Yamim Noraim and where he is accompanied by
a choir directed by Klara Bagley.
Hazzan Edwards has served as the guest Hazzan
at congregations in Toronto, Florida, Israel and England.
He has performed to great accolades in numerous concerts with
such hazzanim as Chaim Adler, Sidney Dworkin and Aaron Bensousan.
Hazzan Edwards also performed in a cantorial tribute to Hazzan
Louis Danto in Toronto and recently appeared in New York at
the convention of the Cantors Council of America.
He continues to refine his cantorial craft
under the guidance of Cantor David Nemtzov and his vocal training
under the guidance of Professor Robert Loewen of the Royal
Conservatory of Music. Srul Irving Glick z”l, the famed composer
and performer of Jewish music, once said of Cantor Edwards
“his chanting of the services and reading of the Torah are
so full of feeling and sweetness.” David speaks Hebrew fluently
and is a member of the Toronto Council of Hazzanim.
He lives in Toronto, has two daughters and
is married to Sandra Maker.
