Cantor Aaron Shifman is originally from Johannesburg, South
Africa and is a sixth generation Cantor. He trained to beome
a Cantor under the tutelage of his uncle, Cantor Yehuda Shifman
and his father, Cantor Baruch Shifman, Cantor Daniel Gildar
and Cantor Abraham Davis. Cantor Shifman studied at Touro
College in New York City and the Talmudical Academy of New
Jersey for four years. Cantor Shifman led his first High Holiday
service at eighteen years of age in Miami. At age twenty one
he was hired as a Cantor.
Cantor Shifman was the Cantor for Temple Beth Moshe in North
Miami, Florida for seven years. Cantor Shifman headed the
Bar Mitzvah Program, all the Choirs, and was the Musical Director
of the Early Childhood Program and Religious School. Cantor
Shifman then went on to Congregation Beth Shalom in Coconut
Creek, Florida from 1996 until he arrive in Cleveland, Ohio
to join B'nai Jeshurun Congregation in November, 1998. Cantor
Shifman has successfully integrated classical cantorial with
contemporary music and has produced five albums.
